A Laboratory Assistant provides assistance with general laboratory activities, including sampling, collection, basic sample preparation, delivering and capturing of product samples according to prescribed methods, routes and timeframes.
Functional Outputs:
Apply and maintain safety in a working environment
Sampling – sample products according to schedule
Sample collection and register of routine samples and re-samples on LIMS or manual register.
Sample deliveries to laboratories as scheduled.
Dispose sample and prepare container for re-use.
Waste removal.
Storage of final tanks in retention store.
Execute ad hoc requests from senior personnel within the limits of employee’s ability and training.
Cleaning of laboratory vehicles (where applicable)
Complete vehicle inspection list and report defects.
General vehicle maintenance, including refueling, tyre pressure, oil and water levels (where applicable)
Scan samples on LIMS or manual system
Reporting of erroneous results to senior laboratory personnel for reactivations
Retention of raw data for traceability
General laboratory housekeeping and cleaning.
Follow works procedures, policies, methods and instructions
Ensure team effectiveness by proactively enhancing good team relationships
Provide adequate feedback to supervisor on work progress
Attend and participate in green area meeting/ safety/ morning/ toolbox talks
Daily activities executed according to plan
Comply to site operational requirements and procedures
Show willingness and ability to develop competence within and outside area of responsibility
Managing performance and development plans
Participate in KPA and PDP discussions
Ensure performance against PDP
Conduct on-the-job training
Ensure that all samples are collected as per schedule, and received on LIMS
Communicate effectively daily with fellow team members and customers
Report deviations to sample schedules, or defect sample containers
Willing to assist fellow colleague with work
Optimisation of existing processes, techniques and practices
Report unsafe conditions/ situations
Report any deviations from schedule, sample availability
Report all defects

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
Matric/Grade 12 with English
Must have Code 8 Driver’s License
Must be able to read, write and speak English
Some experience in a laboratory environment will be beneficial
Some experience of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) will be beneficial
