The following generic requirements are applicable to the posts of Social Workers practicing forensic social work:

• Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions
• Fluency in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English
• Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
• Be an authorised legal driver with at least a valid Code B driver’s licence
• Be a South African citizen
• Not have any previous criminal or departmental convictions, pending criminal/departmental or civil cases
• Must be medically, physically and mentally fit
• Computer literacy, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills will be an advantage
• Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification
• At least a completed SAQA-accredited BA degree in Social Work and registered as a Social Worker with the South African Council of Social Service professions
• Diploma or certificate courses in Child Sexual Abuse and Forensic Assessment of Children
• Must be paid up registered Social Worker at SACSSP
• Be suitable in terms of the requirements as set out in the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 28/2005) and Criminal Law (Sexual Offences on Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32/2007)
• Proven experience and training in the field of child abuse, child development and the assessment of children
• Proven experience in the compiling of court reports
• Proven experience of testifying as an expert in criminal court cases.

1.FORENSIC SOCIAL WORKER (1 POST)

Colonel (Band MMS)

Additional requirements:

At least 7 years’ practical experience in Generic Social Work, with 5 years’ experience in Forensic Social Work.

Core functions:

• Manage formulation of policy, standards, instructions and procedures relating to Forensic Social Work Service
• Capacitate Forensic Social Work in the Province
• Provide a quality Forensic Social Work Service to investigators in order to improve investigation process
• Manage general administrative functions within a Forensic Social Work environment
• Manage and ensure optimal utilisation of resources (human, physical, and financial) allocated to the post to support effective service delivery.


2.FORENSIC SOCIAL WORKER (2 POSTS)

Lt Colonel: (Band D)
Appointment Act: Police Service Act
Salary Level: Level 10: R386 802 per annum

Additional requirements:

At least 4 years’ practical experience in forensic social work.

Core functions:

• Monitor and interpret the provincial standards for Forensic Social Work in respect of the legislation, policies, training and ensure that the rendering of service and evaluation are adhered to
• Manage the effectiveness of the service rendered by the Social Worker conducting Forensic Social Work in the Province
• Conduct Forensic Social Work-related investigations, if required by the Provincial Coordinator
• Collect Quarterly Forensic Social Work returns, audits and any information containing the successful investigation of child sexual abuse cases to the Provincial Coordinator
• Engage in training and the CPDs for Forensic Social Work
• Conduct the PEP for Social Workers practicing Forensic Social Work in the province and general administrative issues
• Facilitate the development and training of Social Workers conducting Forensic Social Work
• Conduct quarterly Forensic Social Work inspections and compile reports to the Forensic Social Work Provincial Coordinator
• Manage and ensure optimal utilisation of resources (human, physical, and financial) allocated to the post to support effective service delivery.

3.FORENSIC SOCIAL WORKER (5 POSTS)

Captain (Band C)

Core functions:


• Conduct forensic assessment/investigations on cases of alleged child abuse referred by SAPS members and/or Judicial System
• Provide evidence in court as an expert witness
• Provide on findings on members and Judicial System
• Manage and ensure optimal utilisation of resources (human, physical, and financial) allocated to the post to support effective service delivery.

4.DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Additional requirements:


• Relevant NQF 7 or NQF 6 qualification from an accredited tertiary institution, ie Unisa, Royal Schools, Trinity College, etc in music or IDMAC/ISMF Director of Music qualification
• At least 5 years’ experience in the Military Band environment as a Band Master.

Core functions:

• Assume command and control over the Provincial Band
• Promote camaraderie, morale and esprit de corps by encouraging the employees of the SAPS to develop an appreciation for the universal language of music
• Initiate and participate in projects to promote a positive relationship between the SAPS and the communities
• Maintain and enhance relations between the SAPS and other Government Departments at all levels, both nationally and internationally, as well as the private sector
• Market the image of the SAPS internally and externally through the medium of music
• Effectively and efficiently manage all resources allocated to the specific post environment in accordance with applicable legislation.

5.GROUP LEADER (2 POSTS)

Salary Level: Captain (Band C)

Additional requirements:

• Relevant NQF 5 qualification from an accredited tertiary institution, ie Unisa, Royal Schools, Trinity College, etc in performing on a specific military band musical instrument or IDMAC/ISMF Group Leader qualification or SAPS/SANDF Practical Music evaluation
• At least 2 years’ experience in the Military Band environment as a section leader.

Core functions:

• Promote camaraderie, morale and esprit de corps by encouraging the employees of the SAPS to develop an appreciation for the universal language of music
• Initiate and participate in projects to promote a positive relationship between the SAPS and the communities
• Maintain and enhance relations between the SAPS and other Government departments at all levels, both nationally and internationally, as well as the private sector
• Market the image of the SAPS internally and externally through the medium of music
• Effectively and efficiently administer all resources allocated to the specific post environment in accordance with applicable legislation.

6.CHIEF MUSICIAN (2 POSTS)

• At least 1 year’s experience in the Military Band environment
• Ability to play one of the following instruments: Trumpet and Tuba.

• Promote camaraderie, morale and esprit de corps by encouraging the employees of the SAPS to develop an appreciation for the universal language of music
• Initiate and participate in projects to promote a positive relationship between the SAPS and the communities

• Show practical competency or talent on the instrument as advertised (recognition of prior learning)
• Ability to play one of the following instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Lead Guitar, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Euphonium and Tuba.

8.MUSICIAN (10 POSTS)

• Relevant musical qualification from an accredited tertiary institution, ie Unisa, Royal Schools, Trinity College, etc in performing on a specific military band musical instrument or IDMAC/ISMF Musician qualification or SAPS/SANDF Practical Music evaluation
• Show practical competency or talent on the instrument as advertised (recognition of prior learning)
• Ability to play one of the following instruments: Trumpet, Clarinets, Baritone Saxophones, Trombone, French Horn, Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, Percussion, Keyboard and Tuba.

• Promote camaraderie, morale and esprit de corps by encouraging the employees of the SAPS to develop an appreciation for the universal language of music
• Initiate and participate in projects to promote a positive relationship between the SAPS and the communities
• Maintain and enhance relations between the SAPS and other Government departments at all levels, both nationally and internationally, as well as the private sector
• Market the image of the SAPS internally and externally through the medium of music.

General:

• Only the official application form (available on the SAPS website and at SAPS recruitment offices) will be accepted. All instructions on the application form must be adhered to, failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application
• The post particulars and reference number of the post must be correctly specified on the application form
• A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae must be submitted together with the application form
• Certified copies of an applicant’s ID document, motor vehicle driver’s licence (where applicable), all educational qualifications obtained together with academic records thereof and service certificates of previous employers stating the occupation, must also be submitted and attached to every application
• The copies must be correctly certified on the copy itself, not at the back. The certification must not be older than three months
• Qualification and driver’s licence submitted will be subjected to verification check with the relevant institution
• Applicants appointed under the Police Service Act will be subjected to a medical assessment by a Medical Practitioner as determined by SAPS prescript
• Applicants appointed under the Police Service Act will be subjected to undergo a lateral entry training programme at SAPS training institution, where applicable
• Applicants will be subjected to fingerprint screening
• Persons who retired from the Public Service by taking a severance package, early retirement or for medical reasons, as well as persons with previous convictions, are excluded
• Applications must be mailed timeously. Late applications will not be accepted or considered
