SANSA has an Opportunity for Antarctic Adventure


Have you ever wanted to go on an Antarctic adventure? Now is your chance! The South African National Space Agency and the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) are looking for volunteers to join the Antarctic takeover team leaving in Dec 2016 and returning in Feb 2017. Apply now for this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

SANSA is currently assembling a team to take with to Antarctica for the summer. The trip will be from approximately the beginning of December 2016 till the end of February 2017. Any individual interested in an experience of a life-time, with some scientific/engineering background may apply for this opportunity.

There will be no payment made to the chosen people, but all their expenses will be paid.

As the take-over occurs under harsh conditions and hard physical labour has to be executed, candidates must be physically fit and mentally strong.
SANSA has a mandate, as outlined in the South African National Space Agency Act, 2008 (Act No 36 of 2008), to co-ordinate and integrate national space science and technology programmes and conduct long-term planning and implementation of space related activities in South Africa, for the benefit of the citizens of South Africa.


SANSA Space Science is a Directorate of SANSA situated in Hermanus, Western Cape. It forms part of the worldwide network of magnetic observatories, monitors and models variations of the earth’s magnetic field, and carries out physics research.

Background verification, including criminal record, credit checks, security clearances, qualification and citizenship checks, as well as competency assessment and psychometric testing, may form part of the selection process. SANSA subscribes to the principles of Employment Equity. Preference will be given to candidates in accordance with this.
