UCT - Learnership vacancies


The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town (UCT) is in the process of offering a Learnership in the Mechanical Engineering workshop to two candidates entering their second year of training. The successful learners will enter into a three-year Learnership agreement to enable them an opportunity to complete NQF level 2-4 in Mechanical Engineering (Tooling Manufacture).

After the completion of the Learnership programme, UCT will not be obliged to offer permanent employment to the candidates.


Key Requirements:


Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science and English
Completion of (or be in the process of completing) the first year of a Mechanical Engineering Learnership at an approved merSETA training provider.
Potential to develop/acquire the technical skills necessary to successfully complete the qualification.
Good communicator in written and spoken English.
Ability to interact with university students, technicians and academic staff within the Department.

Other desirable attributes include: the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, problem solving skills, computer literacy, independent learning ability and initiative. Relevant work experience (such as employment in a workshop in either an industrial or academic environment) would be advantageous.

CNC programme operation would be advantageous.

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to perform a skills test in the workshop.The appointed candidates will be required to go for health screening before they commence the Learnership.

Reporting to the Supervisor: Industrials the incumbent will coordinate and process relevant administration, container management and shipping of industrial products.

Key Performance Areas:

Receiving:


· Receive containers delivered by customers;
· Offload containers from vehicles using crane or manual labour;
· Update the Container Tracking System (CTS); and

Dispatch:

NESFAS Student bursary/scholrships for 2017


To all 2017 first year students who will register at public universities / TVET colleges for the first time in 2017 and need financial support can now apply directly to NSFAS for financial assistance. Applications will remain open between 01 August 2016 and 30 November 2016.

NSFAS is in a process to receive all your information and details from the university/college where you are currently enrolled. You will be automatically migrated to the student-centred model, and will be notified by SMS/post once NSFAS has received and registered your details.


To all current university/TVET college students, who are not funded by NSFAS, but intend to apply for NSFAS assistance for the 2017 academic year

All the above mentioned students – including those who were previously on a government funded bursary programme not offered by NSFAS – can apply for NSFAS financial assistance for the 2017 academic year from 01 September 2016 to 30 November 2016.
